Admission Process
Step 1: Entrance Exam
Candidates must take and pass the Nurse Entrance Exam to be considered for enrollment in the PN Program. Candidates will be required to demonstrate competency in Reading, Math, and English/Language skills. The Entrance Exam must be taken with Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

All test-takers will be required to complete the Remote Proctoring Dry Run test prior to taking the Nurse Entrance Exam virtually. Information will be provided via email prior to your test date.
Please note: A computer equipped with a camera and microphone is needed to take the virtual Nurse Entrance Exam. The latest version of Google Chrome is also needed. Students will be required to provide identification virtually the day of the test. Please click here for browser settings. Although not required for admission, it is recommended that candidates take the Prep Course for the Nurse Entrance Exam. This course is designed for prospective candidates seeking admission in the Practical Nursing Program.

Step 2: Application Packet
Students that have successfully passed the Entrance Exam will receive an application packet. A fully completed application packet must be submitted to the school for admission into the Practical Nursing Program. Once your application packet is complete and you have submitted all required documentation you may call 631-233-4450 to schedule your interview.

Step 3: Interview
Once your fully completed application packet has been received by the school, you may call to schedule a date and time for your interview. All interviews will take place at the Adult Education Center in Brentwood. Students are required to bring photo ID and pen/pencil to the interview. Students will be expected to write a 250-word essay during their interview session.
Candidates that received a borderline score on the Entrance Exam or Interview Session have the opportunity to appeal their score. All appeals will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee for possible admittance.

Step 5: Registration
After receiving an acceptance letter, students will be invited to a mandatory Registration/Orientation session. Students are required to make a $500 non-refundable money-order tuition deposit. Instructions will be included with the official Letter of Acceptance.

Physical Examination
All students are required to have a current and complete physical examination at their own expense, including required immunizations per the Department of Health. Titres to prove immunity, the flu and COVID vaccinations are mandatory for all students. Failure to submit required physical exam will result in termination from the Practical Nursing Program.
General Abilities
If the student is absent due to illness or injury, a letter of full medical clearance, without restrictions, must be provided to the school prior to the student’s return. Nursing students must be able to independently, with or without reasonable accommodation, meet the following technical standards of general abilities and those specifically of observation, communication, motor; intellectual, conceptual, and quantitative situations; essential behavioral and social attributes; and ability to manage stressful situations. Students unable to meet these technical standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, will not be able to complete the program. Illegal or unethical behavior and/or any action or omission that jeopardizes client/staff/peer safety constitutes grounds for course failure and dismissal from the program.
