Incarcerated Education Program

Since 1975, Eastern Suffolk BOCES has been instrumental in the development and implementation of innovative educational and transitional programs for persons incarcerated in Suffolk County Correctional Facilities at Riverhead and Yaphank (including the DWI Alternative Facility) and for at-risk youth attending one of our alternative programs.

The Incarcerated Education Programs & Transitional Programs are a result of a cooperative working relationship with Suffolk County Community College, Suffolk County Department of Labor, Suffolk County Cooperative Extension, Suffolk County Probation and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.

The Incarcerated Youth Program provides educational services to minors in the Riverhead and Yaphank Correctional Facilities, for a minimum of 15 hours per week, to prepare students for TASC™ or Regents testing. Also available are Tutoring, Remedial Education, ENL, and Career and Technical Education, and Career/Life Planning and anger management.

The program also provides Adult Literacy education for individuals 21 years of age and older who do not have a high school diploma and are Limited English Proficient (LEP). This includes Adult Secondary Education (ASE), TASC™ preparation, ENL and Career/Life Planning.
