Shielded Metal Arc Welding Preparation Course

The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Preparation Course is designed to transition basic welding knowledge into advanced SMAW procedures and practices using proper theory and hands- on applications. Students will demonstrate safe work practices as well as safe machine set- up and shut- down. Students will become familiar with polarity, electrode selection, and proper welding procedures. Students will become well versed in the basic welding joints used in the industry and apply them in the four different welding positions. After a comprehensive training applying the basic welding positions and joints, students will advance to the 1” grooved plate and perform either vertical and/ or overhead welds. Students will become familiar with the prequalified procedure standards that are in accordance to the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 structural welding code. After completion of this course students will have a thorough understanding and the hands-on skills necessary to produce a quality welds that are up to industry standards. 20 classes

Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) Fundamentals

Learn beginner to advanced MIG welding, covering welding steel plate coupons in the five basic welding joints in the flat, horizontal and vertical positions.  Students will develop skills with the Gas Metal Arc Welding process (GMAW), or commonly called “MIG” welding, and be introduced to the Flux Cored Arc Welding process (FCAW).   Upon completion, you can seek employment in industries such as manufacturing, fabrication shops, automotive related welding, HVAC related welding, ornamental welding and many more... 10 classes

Welding Qualification Course

The Welding Qualification Course is a continuation of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Preparation Course. Students will learn to identify welding defects and the corrective measures. Students will learn the welder’s role in quality control, and different welding techniques that will advance the welders skill and hands-on knowledge. Students will weld on a 1” grooved plate/ 6” sch 80 pipe (6G only) in either the vertical or overhead position or 45 degree fixed (6G only) and apply their acquired skills to the Welders Performance Qualification test. Prerequisite: requires successful competition of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding Preparation course. 12 classes

Vertical Plate Qualification: Requires successful completion of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding Preparation Course
Overhead Plate Qualification: Requires successful completion of the Shielded Metal Arc Welding Preparation Course
